-- homepage other items › contact me p. ziecina - holistic holistic menu tao brief overviews: tao this section contains a brief introduction to tao, and when one thinks that acording to lao tzu, it is impossible to describe the tao, then this is by definition wrong! however i have tried to include introductions to a number of subjects that are related to this topic. including - ying yang, feng-shui and tai chi. i also hope to include a page on chi at a later date. lifestyle in preperation: hopeing to include such items as creating a relaxing home environment, harmony, self and understanding. style in preperation: hopeing to include general concepts of style over fashion. other items anything else i wish to include. holistic living and lifestyles holism: (from a greek word meaning all, entire, total) is the idea that all the properties of a given system (physical, biological, chemical, social, economic, mental, linguistic, etc.) cannot be determined or explained by its component parts alone. instead, the system as a whole determines in an important way how the parts behave. time, where does it go? before you, or behind you, it depends on which direction you are looking. poledra the general principle of holism was concisely summarized by aristotle in the metaphysics: "the whole is more than the sum of its parts”. what is in this section? this section comprises, (or will comprise of) the following sections – tao, this is ‘classical’ taoism and does not include any religious items or practices. lifestyle, including such items as creating a relaxing home environment, self and understanding. style, general concepts of style over fashion, (all one requires to be in fashion is money, but money will not buy you style). 5 element cooking, principles and suggestions. anything else i wish to include. so what is holistic living holistic living is not just about living a healthy and balanced life, spiritual or otherwise. it is more about balance in what one does and how one lives, especially when it comes to the ‘unhealthy’ things we may do, two examples being: smoking and drinking. i find it interesting that in the so called ‘developed’ world the use of anti-depressant drugs, and the rise in alcohol/drug abuse has risen exponentially as the anti-smoking campaigners have almost universally achieved there goal. i am not saying that smoking is good for you, and as someone who enjoys the occasional cigarette themselves it is not something i would not recommend to anyone. but that said, in moderation i personally think it is better that someone smokes and does not have to be treated for depression or stress with pharmaceutical products, or find life so boring that one feels they must ‘get their kicks’ by other means. holistic living and lifestyle also has nothing to do with vegetarianism, community living, spiritual practices, esoteric beliefs, or other ‘new age’ ideas. it is more a general awareness of ones self, and how one feels and lives ones life in relation to the ‘whole’. why bother? your personal ‘holistic’ lifestyle view will be a combination of behaviours, views and thoughts that makes sense to both you and to a certain degree to those around you; it may include personal and social relationships, food and drink choices, choices in entertainment and relaxation, dress sense and personal style. the behaviours and practices within most people’s lifestyles are a mixture of habits, social conditioning, learned ways of doing thinking and behaving, and believed ‘correct’ actions. therefore, ones lifestyle is often not a personal sense of self, but more one that ones environment, upbringing and friends have created for us. surrounding social and political systems may constrain the lifestyle choices available to the individual, and can often give one an unrealistic view and attitude to ones environment and others, all of which can be overcome when one is willing to ‘try’ and attain a more holistic understanding of people, behaviour and the world. conclusion: what i have contained in these pages are my own personal holistic lifestyle, it may not reflect yours, it may not even be one that you even agree with both in part or fully. but as in everything the choices one makes reflects the person and their experiences, and the same applies here in these my own pages. if you do not agree with anything then i only ask one thing, why? and is that your own opinion or one you have inherited from others without any information or even consideration to the facts. it is just the same as organic food, i eat organic food when i can, i do not expect you to do the same, or even want to! copyright etc - this can be found in the portfolio section of the site. as i work from home, no address or telephone contact details are provided via this site. should you wish to contact me, please use the contact form - contact me © p. ziecina 1994 - 2018
